XXXVII HALIKKO RELAY AND XIII CHILDREN'S HALIKKO RUN

The Halikko Relay is a 15-leg orienteering relay competition for club and recreational teams.

All legs are forked. The course lengths include approximately 500 meters of taped routes.

SCHEDULE: Mass start at 11:00 AM, with the winner expected to finish around 14:45 PM. The restart is scheduled around 15:30 PM.

COMPETITION CLASS TEAM COMPOSITION RESTRICTIONS: Teams in the competition class must include 5 women. Additionally, the orienteers in the team must meet the following class requirements:

  • The runners of the 1st leg must be D-class, -H16, or H50-.
  • The runner of the 14th leg must be D-class.
  • For legs 2-5, the team must have 12 orienteers who meet the following class requirements:
    • 3 runners free
    • 2 runners D-class
    • 2 runners -H18 / H45- / D-class
    • 3 runners -H15 / H55- / -D18 / D40-
    • 2 runners H65- / -D15 / D50-

OPEN CLASS TEAM COMPOSITION RESTRICTIONS: The class requirement for the first leg is the same as in the competition class (D, -H16 / H50-). No other team composition requirements. Participation in the open class does not require a competition license.

COMPETITION METHOD: One runner starts on the first leg, who simultaneously sends three runners on the second leg to the courses 2A, 2B, and 2C (marked on the map) according to the running order. On legs 2-5, three runners from each team run simultaneously, each on their own course. The runner arriving at the changeover sends the next leg's orienteer according to the running order. The runner on leg 14 may start only after all the runners on leg 5 have arrived at the changeover.

EMIT AND RUNNING ORDER: Each team must use either 8 Emit cards or have each runner use their own (15 cards). If the team uses eight cards, the runners of the last two legs (legs 14 and 15) must use their own card. The other legs will alternate the remaining cards per leg.

Running orders and the classes of the runners must be submitted to the SSL IRMA service no later than Friday, October 4, 2024, by 18:00 PM. Emit numbers will be checked in at the start gate per leg, so they do not need to be reported with the running order.

PRIZES: Honorary prizes for the top six teams in the competition class. In the open class, a raffle prize will be awarded to one team.

Special Instructions Regarding Children's Halikko Run

CLASSES: H12 and D13

START: Mass start at 10:45 AM.

COURSE LENGTH: Approximately 3.8 km orienteering course, no forking. The course has a yellow difficulty level, which corresponds to the technical level of the 12-year age category. The map scale is 1:7,500.

Note: Participants in Children's Halikko Run are also allowed to run in the Halikko Relay.

General Instructions for the Event:

REGISTRATION: By Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 24:00 PM through the SSL IRMA service. No late registrations.

PARTICIPATION FEES: Halikko Relay 350 €, Children's Halikko Run 15 €. Participation fees are paid when registering through the IRMA service.

EMIT RENTAL: Emit rental needs must be reported when registering (4 €/each).

GPS TRACKING: GPS tracking will be used in the Children's Halikko Run and on some legs of the Halikko Relay. The competitors and teams carrying GPS devices will be announced before the event.

DIRECTIONS: Guidance from the north starts at the intersection of Tapiolantie and Paimiontie. Navigation address for the start of the guidance: Paimiontie 509, Salo, from where the drive to the parking area takes about 10 minutes. For those arriving from the south, guidance starts from the Hajala exit on the Turku–Helsinki motorway. Navigation address for the start of the guidance: Tapiolantie 205, Salo, from where the drive to the parking area takes about 5 minutes.

PARKING: Parking along roadsides and in yards. Walking distance to the competition center is at most 2 km. No parking fee.

MAP: The map scale for the Children's Halikko Run and legs 3 and 5 of the Halikko Relay is 1:7,500; for the other legs, it is 1:10,000. Contour interval 5 m. Mapped by Ari Salonen.

TERRAIN: Mainly runnable forest terrain with height differences of about 30 meters. No previous orienteering map of the area exists.

SHOWERS: Warm showers in field conditions.

OPEN COURSES: Course lengths 3.0 and 5.5 km.
